Protected Areas of Nature

These are areas where the development of mild forms of economic action, based on the principle of sustainability, is permitted and are called Protected Areas of Nature, and these are:

a) Forests of Juniperus drupaceae in Prastos

b) Forests of Juniperus drupaceae in Agios Vasilios-Platanaki:
The main feature of both of these areas is the presence of rare and unique for Europe Juniperus drupaceae, which forms around the villages beautiful forest of great ecological value.

c) Forests of Juniperus drupaceae in Palaiochori:
characteristic is the presence of the rare and unique for Europe Juniperus drupaceae, which forms around the villages beautiful forests of great ecological value.

d) Important area of flora at mount Parnon peaks:
this is a long area with an altitude of more than 1.500m., which includes the main ridge of Parnon, the ridge Malavazo (1,503 m) and Great Tourla (1,935 m) in the north to the top Madari (1,685 m.) to the south. In this region are concentrated most of the rare and endemic plants of Parnonas.

e) Important area of flora at Mazia-Kontolina

g) Important are of flora Agiou Ioanni-Orinis Meligous

h) Area of Dafnona ravine and monasteries of Sintza and Elona:
Apart from the geomorphological value of the region, this area is particularly important for its vegetation. Here grow some very rare species of plants. It is also important for the presence of certain bird prey species.

i) Moustos Wetland:
A perimeter zone of the area of Absolute Protection, an area of utmost importance for preservation of the wetland.

k) Stream Protection Areas:
As stream protection areas are defined the linear areas along the streams of Dafnona, Vrasiati and Tanos and the sides of the banks in a 50 m. width.
