Tasks:
The volunteers will have the opportunity to work in a natural environment of great value and unique biodiversity, as well to collaborate with individuals of similar interests. The role of the volunteers will be supportive for all activities undertaken by the personnel of the Management Body.
In particular, according to our planning, the volunteers, will receive, upon arrival a detailed orientation regarding the work and the goals of the Management Body, as well as the uniqueness of the protected area, after which they will have the chance to participate in work related to:
• recording and monitoring of reptiles and amphibians, fish species, funguses, species of bats, flora, habitat types, mammal species, invertebrate species and bird species,
• reception and guided tours of foreign visitors in the Environmental Information Centers and in the field of the protected area,
• organizing seminars, workshops etc. and participating in environmental events,
• visits for environmental information in english language private schools as well as in english language classes of public schools of the protected area,
• distribution of promotional materials (brochures, maps, etc.) in enterprises operating in the Protected Area,
• updating the English pages of the website www.fdparnonas.gr of the Management Body,
• creation and editing of informative powerpoint presentations in English that refer to the Protected Area,
• promotion, publicity and public relations activities related to the Protected Area,
• guarding/patrolling in the Protected Area accompanying the qualified personnel,
• surveilling in order to prevent illegal activities within the Protected Area.
• the maintenance of the Protected Area infrastructure (cleaning walking trails from fallen trees, etc.) clearing footpaths and ecologically sensitive areas (stream beds, etc.),
Even though the volunteers will participate in appropriately selected activities, the Management Body is open to any suggestions and new ideas, presented by the volunteers themselves that will help improve the programme, based on the capabilities and skills of each volunteer.
Criteria:
The candidate volunteers must be social individuals, thus easily adapting to group work and also capable of living and collaborating with individuals, stemming from different cultures.
Due to the fact that their main activity area will be the Protected Area of mount Parnon & Moustos wetland, therefore requiring several hours of working in outdoor conditions on a daily basis, which are by no means of extreme nature, the volunteers should be prepared and able to adapt accordingly.
Transportation:
Transportation to the Protected Area and back will be provided by our office. Astros is a small city therefore everything is reachable within walking distance.
Funding information:
Food and accommodation costs for the volunteers will be covered by our office, as well as their transportation costs (90% of travel costs), following the regulations that govern Action 2 of the Youth in Action Program. The volunteers will receive the monthly volunteer’s allowance that is available for Greece.
Procedure:
Interested individuals can download the application from here and send it with a short CV and a recent photo at fdparnona@gmail.com.
All candidates will be evaluated, using the above information and will be notified of the evaluation result via E‐mail.
